WOCRC hosts vigil on 30th Anniversary of Montreal massacre

KANATA – the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre (WOCRC) will mark the 30th anniversary of the École Polytechnique massacre today (Dec. 6).

The WOCRC will hold a vigil from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at their office at 2 MacNeil Ct. in Kanata. A reception will follow.

“Please join us as we remember the 14 female engineering students murdered at École Polytechnique, and to honour all women who are victims of violence,” the WOCRC released in a statement. “The Peer Supporters for Gender-Based Violence services at the WOCRC would like to invite you to an outdoor candlelight service with guest speakers.”

The National Day of Remembrance and Action Against Violence Against Women was established in 1991 by the federal government and was chosen on the day of the massacre to honour the anniversary of the event.
