WCBNN names top WC business, volunteer

WEST CARLETON – It was a competition that went to double-overtime, but there can be only one winner in the inaugural West Carleton Business Neighbourhood Network (WCBNN) Best Business Awards.

Early in February the WCBNN launched a contest to name the best business and volunteer in West Carleton as selected by the voting public.

On Feb. 10, the WCBNN revealed the nominees and opened the final round of voting which closed on Feb. 15.

But there was a tie and the competition was headed to extra time. While the West Carleton Food Access’ Mary Braun was named the Best Volunteer, there was a tie between Constance Bay’s Baylicious Baykery and Carp’s Juke Joint Soul Kitchen.

So, the contest organizers went to a sudden-death overtime where the community had to vote for one of those two businesses only to determine the winner. Unbelievably, the sudden-death round also ended in a tie.

On Feb. 21 the WCBNN organizers held another round of voting, for one day. A lucky voter had the opportunity to win a $50 gift certificate from the WCBNN for the winning business. Later that evening, the WCBNN named their 2021 WCBNN Awards Winner.

“We finally have a clear winner,” the WCBNN announced on their Facebook page. “After a huge number of votes today (Feb. 21) we wish to congratulate Baylicious Baykery for Best Business/Person.”

Constance Bay’s Mandy McKnight was the lucky winner of the $50 gift certificate selected from the voters.

“Congratulations to all the winners,” the WCBNN said.
