WC artists’ expressions
CARP – It is the biggest event of the year for the West Carleton Art Society (WCAS), a collection of the year’s best work and a gathering of the artists that created it.
The Expressions of Art 2019 show took over the Carp Agricultural Hall last weekend and filled the room with the area’s top artists. The event starts Friday evening (Oct. 11) with the Vernissage and continues Saturday and Sunday for art buyers and art lovers to come have a look.
This year 31 artists were selected for the juried show and the weekend kicked off just right.
“It was fantastic,” WCAS President Karen Wynne McKay told West Carleton Online Saturday (Oct. 12) from the show. “The music was great, we had a really good turnout and we did a lot of sales.”
Lanark County musicians Kate Weekes and James Stephens performed for the attendees Friday night.
The Expressions of Art show is more than 25 years old and McKay says this year, 90 per cent of the artists are from the area. While the WCAS has a tried and true system, there are always a few changes each year.
“We have four to six new artists that have never been accepted to the show before,” McKay said. “We have a different layout which seems to have provided us with more space.”
McKay also wanted to give a shout-out to their caterers Leatherworks of Carleton Place.
“They take their leftovers to the Carleton Place women’s shelter and they were very affordable,” McKay said.
Event organizer and artist Anne Heather Moore also wanted to thank the volunteer help. On Friday the WCAS had help from students from Goulbourn Middle School and on Saturday and Sunday students from West Carleton Secondary School volunteered their time to help with the show.
