Ward 5 spring programming kicks off next week

WEST CARLETON – A trio of city-run programs are kicking off this spring.

From fitness to sports to first aid, spring is the time to have some fun in West Carleton. The City of Ottawa is offering fitness, cardio and strength classes in Kinburn kicking off March 25; volleyball in Fitzroy Harbour starting March 27; and standard first aid, CPR C and AED certification back in Kinburn starting April 6.

Fitness Cardio & Strength: Running from March 25 to May 13 on Mondays from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Kinburn Community Centre. This class is for ages 18+ and the cost is $59. This is a choreographed low-impact cardio class designed to overload the muscles with highly repetitive movements. Some light hand weights (1 to 5 pounds) might be used in the cardio and/or strength portion. (Course code: 1464176).

Volleyball: Running March 27 to May 15 on Wednesdays at St. Michael’s Catholic School in Fitzroy Harbour. The class is for ages 15 and up and the cost is $75.50. Emphasis is on active participation and fun. Games are at a recreational level. (Course code: 1473945).

Standard First Aid, CPR C and AED certification:  Running Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 5pm, at the Kinburn Community Centre. Participants are expected to attend 100 per cent of the course time. The cost is $138.50. (Course code: 1476642).
