UPDATE (3:45 p.m.) – Shane Sabourin has been arrested by Lanark Ontario Provincial Police.

“On July 15, shortly before 1 p.m., members with the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) and OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) arrested Shane Sabourin, 30-years-old, of Carleton Place,” OPP media relations coordinator Const. Bill Dickson released in a statement around 3:30 p.m. this afternoon (July 15).

Witnesses observed a heavy police presence at a Bell Street address in Carleton Place where a male was taken in to custody. Carleton Place media reports the suspect taken in to custody had to receive medical attention before being escorted out by police. The individual was placed in to an ambulance where the person was taken to the Carleton Place and District Hosipital.

At this time, the investigation remains ongoing and police are advising members of the public that there is no longer a public safety concern.

CARLETON PLACE – Lanark Ontario Provincial Police constables are seeking a man in relation to a motel stabbing that occurred early this morning (July 15).

Officers with the Lanark Detachment OPP were called to a motel on Highway 7 in Carleton Place at approximately 4 a.m. on July 15,” OPP media relations coordinator Const. Bill Dickson released in a statement today. “A male was found at that location suffering from serious injuries.” 

The victim later succumbed to the injuries.

OPP officers, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, are actively searching for Shane Sabourin, 30 of Carleton Place, in connection with this incident.  

Sabourin is described as white, 175 ccentimetres (5’7″), tall, 90.5 kgs (199 lbs), with black hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a black, long sleeved shirt and pants and walking along Highway 7 near McNeely Avenue.  

“This individual may be armed with knife,” Dickson said. “do not approach. Please call 911 if you have any information on his whereabouts.”

Between Monday, July 6 and Monday, July 13, 2020 officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 353 calls for service. 

There was a huge increase in domestic incidents this past week with OPP investigating 23 cases – the highest weekly amount during the pandemic.

On July 6, a victim of domestic abuse contacted the Carleton Place OPP. Officers conducted their investigation which resulted in the arrest and charge of the person’s spouse, a 44-year-old resident of carleton place, with three counts of spousal assault and three counts of adult assault with a weapon – spousal. The incidents were reported to have occurred between September 2018 and April 2020. The accused was released from custody on an undertaking with a scheduled court date of Oct. 5, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.  

Lanark County OPP were called to a residence in the Town of Perth on July 8, just before 1 a.m. regarding a domestic incident in progress. Officers attended and spoke with the victim. Officers conducted their investigation which resulted in arrest and charge of a 25-year-old resident of Perth with one count adult assault with a weapon – spousal. Release was in the form of an undertaking with a scheduled court date of Sept. 28, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth. 

Lanark County OPP were called to a residence in the Township of Drummond-North Elmsley on July 10, just before 5 a.m. regarding a domestic incident in progress. Officers attended and spoke with the victim. Officers conducted their investigation which resulted in arrest and charge of a 32-year-old resident of McNab-Braeside Township with one count spousal assault. Release was in the form of an Undertaking with a scheduled court date of Aug. 17, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth. 

Lanark OPP investigated 11 thefts, two break and enters, six cases of mischief and five incidents of fraud.

Between July 6 and July 13, Lanark County OPP received five calls regarding gas drive-offs: 4 incidents in Carleton Place and one in Perth.

 On July 7, Carleton Place OPP were advised of a theft from an address on Hurdis Way in Carleton Place. It was reported to officers that a 2008 black utility trailer and a black View NIT model XLM2013 trailer was stolen overnight. 

“This is still under investigation,” Staff Sgt. Marty McConnell released in a statement yesterday (July 14). “Anyone with information regarding this incidents is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Lanark County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.”

There were 23 motor vehicle collisions over the week – eight involved deer.

Lanark County OPP officers were called to Wilson Street West in the Town of Perth on July 7, just before 12 p.m., regarding a two-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and SUV. The investigation resulted in the driver of the motorcycle, a 66-year-old from South Elmsley Township, charged for drive motor vehicle-perform stunt-stop or slow to interfere with traffic contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. There were no reported injuries from this collision.

On July 8, just before 12 a.m., officers from the Lanark County OPP were dispatched to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 43 in Drummond-North Elmsley Township, just east of Moore’s Road. As a result of the investigation David Czuray, age 21 of Smiths Falls was arrested and charged with dangerous operation under the criminal code and drive motor vehicle – no licence under the Highway Traffic Act. The accused was released with a scheduled court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Aug. 24.

On July 6, just before 2:30 p.m., officers from the Lanark County OPP spoke with a lone driver parked on the shoulder of Highway 7 in Beckwith Township. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for testing. Susan Taillon, age 60 of Beckwith Township, with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). The accused’s driver’s licence was suspended automatically for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Aug. 10.  

On July 6, Lanark County OPP was called to an assault in progress on Gore Street in the Town of Perth just before 5 p.m. Officers attended and spoke with the victim. Officers conducted their investigation which resulted in arrest and charge of Jordan Carl, 22 of Perth, with one count adult assault, mischief under $5,000 and fail to comply with probation order. The accused was released with a scheduled court appearance on Aug. 17, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.
