COBURG – The West Carleton Electric U12 boys team have punched their ticket to the provincial championship.

The ‘Trics as they are affectionately known, finished second of nine teams at the Ontario Amateur Softball Association East Qualifier fastball tournament in Cobourg this past weekend.

The team went 1-1 Saturday, July 13, on the first day of the tournament.

“The mini ‘Trics opened things up with a big 10-5 win over the Springbrook Royals,” the Easter Ontario Fastball Blog reported earlier today (July 15). “They then lost to the Napanee Express 15-5, but rebounded with an 18-5 victory over the Oshawa Double Bs.”

The team started Sunday 2-0 to make it to the final.

“West Carleton defeated Springbrook again, this time 12-6,” the fastball blog reported. “A 12-4 win over the Bracebridge Bandits put the Electric in the final, once again facing Napanee. The WC team got out to a 6-2 lead in the fourth, but couldn’t hold on had to settle for silver, losing 11-7.”

The second-place finish means West Carleton will be in the Provincial A division in Ponsonby, ON on the Aug. 11-12 weekend.
