Tornado clean-up crew swamp-bound this Saturday
DUNROBIN – West Carleton’s fearless clean-up crew is heading to the swamp this Saturday (June 22), and they need your help.
Volunteers are requested for those who would like to take a little swamp tour as a clean-up party heads to the marshy area on the south side of Thomas Dolan Parkway.
“Help is needed to clean up debris from the tornado scattered through the swamp and trees,” volunteer organizer Ruth Sirman told West Carleton Online today. “This is a bigger job than what a few tired volunteers can do.”
Sturdy footwear is required. Steel toe boots, hiking or rubber boots and even hip waders if available.
“You may get wet so dress appropriately,” Sirman said but pointed out “there are light and heavy tasks available.”
Organizers also recommend you bring a hat, bug repellent, sun screen, long pants and sleeves and safety glasses if you have them.
Organizers can provide work gloves, safety vests, safety glasses, Gatorade, water and snacks and garbage bags.
Organizers also hope to attract some skilled volunteers.
“We can also use a few ATVs, trailers trucks or small tractors, chainsaws, Sawzall, Rubbermaid bins or heavy garbage cans.
“Come for as long as you can and do what you are able to do,” Sirman said.
For more information or to sign up, contact Ruth Sirman by email at rsirman@canmediate.comor or text her at 613-298-8105. Volunteers will meet at the Dunrobin Community Centre at 8:45 a.m. before heading out.
“The Dunrobin Disaster Assistance Group Facebook page will have updates too,” Sirman said.
