Three bumbling youth arrested in west end carjacking
NEPEAN – A couple of crimes later, three minors were arrested last night (Feb. 18) in the west end of Ottawa after being tracked down by the Ottawa Police Service’s K9 unit.
“Frontline officers arrested three men following a carjacking in the West end of Ottawa last night,” the OPS released in a statement today. “At approximately 8:10 p.m., three men approached a woman in the 200 block of Baseline Road, brandished a weapon and tried to take her keys and purse. They fled the area after their attempt was unsuccessful. The victim was not injured.”
Less than one hour later the same three men approached another man who was sitting in his vehicle. They brandished a weapon and demanded his cell phone and vehicle. They fled the area in the stolen vehicle leaving the victim behind, uninjured.
“Responding officers searched the area and located the stolen vehicle,” the OPS said. “The vehicle was stopped, two of the suspects were arrested and a third one fled the area.”
A successful K9 track led to the arrest of the third suspect an hour later.
“The three suspects have been arrested and identified,” the OPS said. “they are all under 18-years-old, as such their identities will not be released.”
The investigation is ongoing by the Ottawa Police Robbery Unit.
