Take the walk and support the AGH
ALMONTE – Nearly 200 people have already signed up for the sixth annual Mississippi Mills River Run or Walk (MMRRW) Saturday, Sept. 7.
The MMRRW is a fundraiser for the Almonte General Hospital. Individuals, teams and families are all coming out to support quality health care close to home.
“Each year we strive to increase participation and fundraising,” said AGH FVM Foundation Vice Chair Julie Munro, who is also chairing the event committee. “Our goal is helping our Obstetrics Unit and supporting Women’s Health by putting the best medical tools in the hands of our incredible doctors and staff. The financial success of this event means replacement and new equipment in those two key areas.”
Thanks to our presenting partner Shoppers Drug Mart Almonte, and our supporting partners Bean Chev Old GMC, Almonte Civitan Club, Orchard View by the Mississippi, Carp Commons, Thomas Cavanagh Construction, Priority Patient Transfer, Almonte Chiropractic Centre, Vamos, C.R. Gamble Funeral Home, Brokerlink Insurance Almonte, and Art & Helen Levi for their generous support. Because of these incredible partners, all funds collected in pledges by our walkers/runners go directly to support the purchase of diagnostic equipment for women’s health and the Hospital’s ever expanding Obstetrics Unit.
“Everyone is encouraged, especially families in particular that have had their children at the Hospital, are asked to come out to walk or run with us to celebrate this great facility and quality healthcare close to home” Munro said. “Another way to participate is to shop the online auction taking place on our home page (www.almontehospitalfoundation.com) between now and Sept. 7.”
The MMRRW features three different distances: a 3 km timed run, 3km recreational, 5km timed run or walk and 10km timed run or walk. Pre and post walk or run events include warm up, musical entertainment, breakfast served by the Almonte Civitan, massages, recovery food and children’s activities like face painting, and more.
As well as registration, which only costs $35 in advance, individuals and teams are encouraged to collect donations to support your event participation. Pledge incentives such as gift certificates for Wilderness Tours, Patrice’s Independent Grocer and Shoppers Drug Mart are awarded depending on the amount of pledges collected. The highest individual fundraiser and fundraising team wins prizes including suite tickets to see the hottest comedian around, Sebastion Maniscalco in concert.
Last year more than 305 walkers and runners took to the streets in support of the event, which begins and ends behind the Hospital and Fairview Manor at 95 Spring St. The first group leaves at 8:30 a.m. and it all wraps up by noon. Some road closures in and around the Hospital will be necessary but residents will be advised in advance.
