Summer AGM for the CBBCA, July 14

CONSTANCE BAY – While the meat of the Annual General Meeting season is found in the winter, the Constance and Buckham’s Bay Community Association (CBBCA) will be hosting a summer meeting.

The executive and interested parties will meet Sunday, July 14 at 1 p.m. at the NorthWind Wireless Fibre Centre and there are some important positions to fill.

“Everyone is encouraged to attend the CBBCA Annual General Meeting,” the CBBCA released in a statement. “All positions are up for election and five critical positions will be vacant. Please join us to say thank you to the board, your volunteers, and retiring directors.”

The CBBCA has had an incredibly busy last couple of years. Along with their organization of recreation and youth sports programming, the CBBCA has been on the front lines of flood remediation in 2017 and again this year as the community attempts to recover from extreme flooding for the second time in three years.

“The board and volunteers of a community association determine how much an association can achieve, if it will engage in any particular issue, and if it will be relevant or important to the community as a whole,” the CBBCA said. “In recent years very few communities have risen to as many challenges or proven to be as resilient or effective as our CBBCA community; expanding our facilities, growing our base of program opportunities, improving access to services, responding to three emergencies, and helping to form West Carleton Disaster Relief; it has been a rewarding time for our board members and volunteers.”

The CBBCA executive says in 2019 the board will undergo dramatic change and new hands, ideas, and leadership are needed.

“If we don’t get these leaders the growth we have enjoyed will not be sustainable and new opportunities will not come to fruition,” the CBBCA said.

In 2019 the positions of president (Len Russell), vice-president (Ian Glen), secretary (Graham Ginsberg), and youth sports (Ryan Keeling) will not be standing for re-election; they will stand in an ‘at large’ capacity to support the new leadership.

“Also of very significant consequence, past president Angela Bernhardt will not be returning,” the CCBCA said. “In five short years Angela has made many exceptional contributions to our community and to WCDR and will be sorely missed.”
