Spike contributes to nearly 200 active COVID-19 cases in Ottawa
OTTAWA – With 76 new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the last two days, the city is facing a spike as the curve starts to dangerously go up again.
Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is reporting 189 active cases of COVID-19 in the community after another jump in positive test results.
On Tuesday OPH reported 43 new cases – the highest number of new cases in a singe day since May 9, and on Wednesday it another 33 cases were confirmed, bringing the total number of lab-confirmed cases of the virus since the beginning of the pandemic to 2,320.
The local resolved rate has dropped in the last week from more than 85 per cent, down to 80.5 per cent, thanks to the quick increase in positive cases.
OPH’s latest figures show 20 to 29-year-olds making up 333 of the overall case count, leading all other age groups.
There are currently eight people in Ottawa hospitals fighting COVID-19, three of whom are in intensive care. At the beginning of the week, there were no COVID-19 patients in the ICU.
There has yet to be a local death related to the virus since June 25, so the death toll remains at 263.
