Spammers use Arnprior staff name in email fraud

ARNPRIOR – Fraudsters were using Town of Arnprior staff in an attempt to steal money through a local email scam.

Area residents were receiving a suspicious email Friday (Sept. 4) morning when a malware e-mail appearing to originate from the municipality began circulating, requesting payment for an alleged overdue invoice.

Anyone who received an e-mail from Karen Tourangeau (ktourangeau@arnprior.ca), with the subject line ‘Invoice 346086 EFT Remittance Advice’ with a link to payment details, should delete the e-mail immediately.

“Do not respond to the e-mail, nor click on any links within the e-mail,” Arnprior staff advidsed.

The town assures residents it will never ask for your payment details via e-mail and will not send a link for payment purposes.

If you are ever unsure about an e-mail you receive from a staff member please contact town hall to verify at 613-623-4231.
