Sixty new cases, two more deaths in Ottawa due to COVID-19
OTTAWA – As a surge, many are calling the beginning of the second wave, continues Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is reporting two more local deaths due to COVID-19 and 60 more confirmed cases of the virus today (Sept. 21).
OPH is reporting West End Villa has one more COVID-19-related death, bringing the toll to seven since Aug. 30. The long-term care home has been the hardest hit Ottawa-area facility since the end of August, now reporting 63 cases of the novel coronavirus in its resident population as well as 22 staff members infected.
The villa is one of 25 institutions currently reporting outbreaks, though the majority of the outbreaks involve just one or two cases per facility.
Monsignor Paul Baxter school in Barrhaven, which has been shut down due to the virus, is one of those institutions reported Monday. It has confirmed two staff cases and two student cases of COVID-19.
The city’s death toll since the beginning of the pandemic is now 276. OPH says it currently knows of 523 active cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa.
There are 10 people in local hospitals with the virus as of today – two of whom are in intensive care.
Since March, Ottawa has confirmed 3,679 cases of COVID-19, with 2,880 (78.3 per cent) of those cases resolved.
