Scrap metal drop-off a fundraiser for HCA programming

CARP – Get rid of that rusty scrap metal lying around the yard – its not art, you know.

The Huntley Community Association (HCA) is hosting a scrap metal drop-off on the weekend of Nov. 7 and 8.

“The HCA is again offering local residents an environmentally convenient way to recycle metal wastes,” the HCA released in a statement earlier this week.

While a great way to clean up the property before the snow flies (hopefully) the program also supports HCA events.

“At last year’s event more than two metric tonnes of metal were recycled with the proceeds, roughly $350, used to support other HCA initiatives,” the HCA said. “Metro Scrap Metal has again generously agreed to supply a storage bin for this year’s event, at no cost to the HCA, which will be located at the outdoor rink by the Carp fairgrounds.”

All types of metal are accepted in addition to e-waste, insulated wiring and appliances that do not contain freon or flammable liquids. An HCA volunteer will be onsite from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Nov. 7 for those residents who may need assistance placing their recyclable metal in the bin.

Current COVID-19 rules will prevent the HCA volunteer from carrying items out of residents’ vehicles.
