Residents receiving unsolicited Chinese seeds in mail
RENFREW COUNTY – It’s a present in the mail the police don’t want you to accept.
“The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has received calls regarding unordered seeds that have been delivered to residences by mail from China,” OPP media relations officer Const. Tina Hunt released in a statement today.
“If you receive an unsolicited shipment of foreign seeds in the mail do not open the seeds, do not plant the seeds and do not dispose of the seeds. Please contact the Canada Food Inspection Agency 613-773-8660 where a drop off or a pick-up can be arranged.”
As the seeds appear to be unsolicited planting or disposing of them could result in the introduction of an invasive species to the environment. For further information contact the Canada Food Inspection Agency.
