Renfrew County 2022 Ontario Winter Games will need 700 volunteers

RENFREW COUNTY – 2022 Ontario Winter Games organizers think they will need approximately 700 volunteers to host the games in Renfrew County and the Ottawa Valley.

A total of 27 different sporting events are being planned for the games at locations across Renfrew County including Arnprior and Wesley Clover Park. The event is expected to draw more than 3,500 athletes.

Event chair and Renfrew Reeve Peter Emon, says 16 committees will need to be formed for the games including committees for accessibility, information technology, registration, medical and transportation.

Emon says organizers will hire a general manager to help oversee the event and coordinate the games.

Discussions are ongoing to see it the 2022 Ontario Winter Games should be hosted over the course of six straight days or to have it phased in over two weekends.

Emon adds organizers hope to make admission free for residents to watch and cheer on the athletes competing, but that all depends on fundraising and sponsorships. The Ontario Winter Games is expected to have an economic spin off around $5 million.

Anyone interested in volunteering can send an email to info@renfrewcounty2022.ca.

Emon says they will get back to volunteers as quickly as possible and asks that you send your interests, experience and contact information when you reach out.
