CARP – A local, charitable organization is collecting products for women and children to support the Chrysalis House Woman’s Shelter in Ottawa.

“During these uncertain times, we hope to provide relief to women and children who are staying in the Western Ottawa Resource Centre’s women’s shelter, Chrysalis House with Purple Packs,” the the Purple Packs organizers released in a statement. “We plan to provide two types of care packages, one for women who have periods and another for women with babies and small children.”

The period packs will have period products and a small care item such as nail polish, hand cream, or a facemask. In the mother’s packs, they hoped to provide diapers, pullups, and a small toy or activity such as colouring books and crayons or books.

Purple Packs has been organized by three Grade 12 students working on the social change initiatives, Bio Birth Box and Menstro.

“With your help, we can provide relief to women and children through the donation of these necessary products,” organizers said. “As well as items that will provide joy and comfort during these trying times.

Organizers are looking for the donation of new diapers and pull-ups of all sizes for the young children staying at the Chrysalis House.

The two organizations that have combined forces for the Purple Packs initiative include Menstro and Bio Birth Box.

Menstro is an Ottawa-based political advocacy campaign working to normalize menstruation and end period poverty.

Bio Birth Box’s mission is to provide a biodegradable alternative to the life-changing birthing kits in hopes of saving the lives of mothers and babies as well as the world they are brought into.
