Ottawa gymnastics instructor facing sex related offences
OTTAWA – A gymnastics instructor known as Wookie, is facing sex-related offences following his arrest on Sunday, April 28.
The Ottawa Police Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit (SACA) laid charges of sexual assault and sexual interference against a 27-year-old Ottawa man, Klyne Pitpitunge.
The charges stem from incidents that occurred in March and
April 2019, while the accused was employed as a gymnastics
coach/instructor. The locations he has worked at are at the 2700 block of
Lancaster Road, 1100 block of Morrison Drive. He was suspended from coaching at
the start of the investigation.
Pitpitunge was in show cause court April 29.
SACA continues the investigation and is concerned there could be more victims.
“The Ottawa police will respect a victim’s wishes to pursue or not pursue
the matter before the courts,” the Ottawa Police Service released in
a statement. “The reporting of these incidents by victims to police is key
for investigators to identify suspects and determine crime trends.”
Victims in this case are between five and 10-years-old. It is expected that there could be further victims ranging from 4 and 12 years old.
