Old sleds back in the Bay Feb. 23

CONSTANCE BAY – There is a long history of snowmobiling in West Carleton and that history will be on display at the 14th annual Old Sled Run in Constance Bay, Sunday, Feb. 23.

The Old Sled Run and Vintage Snowmobile Show has grown to become a favourite winter event in West Carleton. Last year nearly 100 classic, antique and just plain old snowmobiles took part with people coming as far away as Wisconsin to take part.

This year the event, hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 616, gets underway at 8 a.m. with registration and breakfast at Branch 616 (377 Allbirch Rd.). The snowmachines depart the Legion in an off-trail parade at 10 a.m., headed to Gavan’s Hotel in Quyon.

Last year the Red Diablo was a hit at the Old Sled Run, while this year the Old Sled Run’s featured sled is John Deere.

“Making children walk home since 1970,” organizers released in a statement.

Organizers will also be giving out special awards “for all John Deere riders that finish the run.”

There is a chili lunch served upon return to the Legion and awards will be handed out at 3 p.m. For more information on the Old Sled Run, visit their website here.
