Nineteen-year OPP veteran charged with sexual assault in Smith Falls
SMITH FALLS – The Lanark County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one of their own with historic sexual assault and interference charges.
“The OPP Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) commenced an investigation in January 2020 after receiving a complaint of an incident that occurred in 2013,” OPP media relations coordinator Const. Bill Dickson released in a statement today (June 4). “On June 3, 2020 members with the OPP PSB arrested and charged an OPP provincial constable with 19 years of service with sexual assault and sexual interference on a minor.”
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal at a later date. He has been suspended with pay, in accordance with the Police Services Act of Ontario.
The identity of the accused is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim.
