New fire brings number to seven in Algonquin Park

ALGONQUIN PARK – A new fire has been found in Algonquin Park, bringing the number of wildfires to seven in the popular camping area.

Yesterday West Carleton Online reported six wildfires burning in the park.

The seventh fire was discovered late yesterday afternoon (Aug. 28) and is estimated to be less than a hectare in size and contained to an area five kilometres north of Hwy. 60.

The forest fire hazard is rated low to moderate in most of the region however areas along the Quebec border from Mattawa to Pembroke are showing a high hazard.
