Nepean traffic stop results in gun, drugs seized
NEPEAN – A Friday night (Jan. 4) traffic stop netted Ottawa police a pile of drugs and one gun.
“On the evening of Friday, Jan 3 the Ottawa Police Service OPS) Drug Unit, with assistance from members of Prevention and Intervention of Violence Ottawa (P.I.V.O.T.), arrested two men and a youth who were in possession of a firearm and drugs for sale,” the OPS released in a statement. “All three, from Ottawa, were arrested in a vehicle in the Merivale Road and Laperriere Avenue area.”
The oldest male was also bound by a previously issued firearm prohibition order.
Anthony Aust, 22 of Ottawa, Ben Gatwech, 18 of Ottawa and a 15-year-old male youth were arrested at the scene.
All three face the following charges:
- 3 X Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in a Schedule I substance
- Possess Loaded Regulated Firearm
- Careless Storage of a Firearm
- Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to Public Peace
- Possess Firearm Knowing Its Possession is Unauthorized
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited Weapon
- Possess Firearm Obtained by Crime
- Possess Prohibited Weapon Knowing No Authority
- Possess Proceeds Under $5,000
Ottawa police seized:
- Fentanyl
- Cocaine and crack cocaine
- Currency
- Taurus Millennium G2 PT140 – .40 caliber handgun – Loaded
