SULLIVAN ISLAND – The Whitewater Region Fire Department is partnering up with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) to battle a forest fire on Sullivan Island on the Ottawa River near Beachburg in Renfrew County.

The MNRF first reported the blaze just after 6:30 p.m. last night (July 9). The fire is currently 0.2 hectares in size and listed as under control.

The Whitewater Region Fire Department says lightning is to blame. Local firefighters are working with the assistance of the MNRF.

The MNRF is aware of one other active fire in Renfrew County. A  0.5 hectare blaze in Laurentian Hills was first reported on Wednesday night (July 8). That fire is also listed as under control.
