Merge Robotics fundraiser this Sunday (VIDEO)

CARP -While there won’t be robot waiters, there will be a robot athlete on hand at the 2706: Merge Robotics Annual Fundraiser Dinner this Sunday at the Carp Agricultural Hall.

It’s a busy time for the robotics competition team as they have just returned from their first competition shortly after spending eight weeks building their robotic beast.

“We’d like to take a moment to invite you to our Annual Fundraising Dinner,” Merge Robotics mentor Kendra Shaw said. “It will be held on Sunday, April 7 at Carp Agricultural Hall, 3790 Carp Road, Carp from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be a vegetarian option. We hope you can join us.”

The team returned from Ryerson University where they competed in the regional finals from March 15 to March 17.

“There we managed to be chosen on the Third Alliance and managed to make it to the quarter-finals,” Shaw said. “In addition, we picked up the Imagery and Safety awards. If you’d like to see what it was like, our student media team put together a summary video.”

The team also recently returned from North Bay from another tournament held last weekend (March 29).

“We just got back Sunday morning from North Bay where we captained the eighth Alliance,” Shaw said. “Again battling to the quarter-finals. We were honoured to receive the Engineering Inspiration Award. This award indicates that we are a team for others to emulate and is a very high honour indeed. In fact, this alone qualifies us to compete for the Provincial Engineering Inspiration Award at the Provincial Championships in Mississauga on April 10 to 13.”

“This fundraiser will help our team continue to operate successfully in our community and allow our 51 students to continue to enjoy the robotics team,” Shaw added.

Adult tickets cost $10 and children 10 and under are $5. Please RSVP if you would like tickets put aside for you. Dinner is served from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

“We hope you can join us at our fundraising dinner and thank you for your support,” Shaw said. “Without you, none of this would be possible.”
