Men’s U23 Canadian Fastball Championship coming to Carp
CARP – Softball Canada has named Carp the home of the 2020 Under-23 Men’s Canadian Fastballl Championship.
Softball Canada made the announcement yesterday (Dec. 17) just after noon.
“It’s official – Softball Canada has selected the West Carleton Amateur Sports Club (WCASC) and the town of Carp as the host of the 2020 Under-23 Men’s Canadian Fast Pitch Championships,” Softball Canada released in a statement.
The championship will be held from Tuesday, July 28 through Sunday Aug. 2 at the Carp Agricultural Society Fairground’s softball diamonds.
The WCASC is becoming synonymous with fastball and organizing top-notch tournaments.
The club hosted the U19 provincial championship last June, the women’s university championship the year before, several other smaller tournaments and is home to the Gil Read Memorial Fastball Tournament annually.
While on fairground land, the ball diamonds are owned and maintained by the Huntley Community Association.
“We are very exited for this tournament and have been working hard on upgrading the diamonds in preparation,” HCA board member Amy Baldry told West Carleton Online.
And the work done at the ball diamonds as well as by tournament hosts is well appreciated far outside the Carp community.
“Well deserved,” the Durham Diamondbacks Fastball team said following the announcement. “One of our favourite places to play.”
The community of West Carleton is also well known for its deep roster pool of fastball talent as one look at West Carleton Online’s coverage of the popular sport will attest.
