Man charged in Nov. 8 death of Arnprior native inside detention centre

OTTAWA – Ottawa police have charged Kivi Bar Wari with the beating death of Arnprior’s William Renwick while both were incarcerated at the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Detention Centre on Oct. 17.

“The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Homicide Unit has charged Bar Wari, 36 of no fixed address, with second degree murder in the beating death of Renwick, 49 of Arnprior,” the OPS released in a statement today (Nov. 19). “Charges were upgraded from aggravated assault to second degree murder after Renwick succumbed to injuries he sustained on Oct. 17 while both men were inmates of the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Detention Centre.”

Renwick died in hospital on Nov. 8.

Renwick had run afoul of the law over the last few years. In 2014, Renwick was charged with theft related to a crime at the Antrim Truck Stop. At the time Renwick also confessed to theft from the Metro grocery store. It was later determined the jacket Renwick was wearing was stolen. He was charged with two counts of theft under $5,000 and one charge of possession of stolen property.

In 2018 Renwick was charged with bail violations.
