Man charged in July sex assault in Kanata

KANATA — The Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault and Child Abuse (SACA) Unit has charged a man in relation to a July sexual assault in the Kanata area.

“While in the Kanata area in late July, a woman in her 20s was approached by a man who engaged her in a conversation,” the Ottawa Police Services (OPS) released in a statement today (Oct. 6). “He later offered to show her the neighbourhood while riding in his vehicle.”

During their drive, the tone changed police say, and the man propositioned the woman for sexual favours. When she refused, he sexually assaulted her.

“Today, Behfar Tajeri-Goharzd, 58 of Ottawa, was charged with sexual assault and will make his first court appearance on Oct. 22,” the OPS said. “Investigators believe there may be other victims and are asking them to contact police.”
