Major events cancelled until Aug. 31
OTTAWA – A summer’s worth of events in the City of Ottawa has just been wiped out by the coronavirus.
“As restrictions on some closures gradually ease, gatherings of more than five people continue to be legally prohibited and the city and the province both remain in states of emergency,” city staff released in a statement yesterday (May 20). “The city is extending its suspension of city-permitted special events, festivals and other cultural programs until Monday, Aug. 31.”
Events that attract large numbers of participants make physical distancing impossible. Many events scheduled to take place during the summer months have already been postponed to a later date.
