Madawaska Bridge construction starts Monday, June 17
ARNPRIOR – Construction on Arnprior’s Madawaska Bridge starts next Monday (June 17) and will continue off and on for the next two years.
Renfrew County Coun. Dan Lynch says because the bridge and Madawaska Boulevard is a county road, not a Town of Arnprior road, the responsibility of the project is the upper-tier municipality. The project is costing the county more than initially estimated, due to the deterioration of support pillars under the structure.
The new price tag is estimated at $5.3 million, with the County of Renfrew footing all of the bill.
“At the last operations meeting we had an updated from the consultants and the support underneath was not what it needs to be, and the price has gone up by a whole bunch of money,” Lynch told Oldies 107.7.
Lynch says it’s a two-year work schedule with a winter break from mid-November of this year, resuming mid-April of 2020.
The estimated completion date is December 2021.
Dalcon Construction is carrying out the work. For drivers, it may take extra time to cross over the Madawaska Bridge as the route will be reduced to two lanes.
