Lots of snow expected in WC starting Thursday

WEST CARLETON – You may want to pack some snowshoes for your Thursday (Feb. 6) commute.

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement expecting a large amount of snow starting Thursday evening and in to Friday morning (Feb. 7).

“Snow associated with a low-pressure system from Texas is expected to arrive late tonight (Feb. 5),” Environment Canada released in a statement. “The snow is forecast to continue through the day Thursday and may become mixed with ice pellets near the St. Lawrence river Thursday afternoon.”

The snow will then continue Thursday night into Friday morning. Additional light snowfall will be possible Friday before the snow finally comes to an end Friday evening.

Total snowfall accumulations in the eight to 12 centimetre range will be possible by Friday evening.

“The Thursday morning and Thursday afternoon commutes are likely to be impacted by this snowfall,” Environment Canada said.

Environment Canada will continue to monitor the situation closely. However, Snowfall warnings are not anticipated at this time.
