Lion coach, president suspended from track club amid sexual harassment investigation

KANATA – A coach and the club president of the Ottawa Lions Track and Field Club have been suspended due to an ongoing sexual harassment investigation by Athletics Canada.

Coach Andy McInnis is already on paid administration leave or suspension.

Complaints came against the coach in 2018 and he was suspended in September, but Athletics Canada said McInnis still took part in December and January training camps — which was against the rules of his leave.

According to Athletics Canada commissioner Frank Fowlie, McInnis had previously been reprimanded by the track and field club after complaints of sexual harassment made in 2016. Those complaints involved athletes and others.

On March 18, the Athletics Canada Commissioner’s Office revealed the president of the Ottawa Lions, Ken Porter, had also been suspended.

Both are expected to be away from their jobs until the investigation is complete.
