Lexie fundraiser to support beating victim

CARP – Fundraising efforts continue to help support 29-year-old Dunrobin native Alexandra York who was brutally beaten in Cancun, Mexico last November and is still working hard to recover.

Lexie, as she’s known to her friends and family, was on vacation at a resort in Mexico when she was violently attacked in her hotel room following an evening dinner. York was injured so badly she was hospitalized for weeks and had to undergo several surgeries.

Friends, family and her extended West Carleton community has come to her aid working hard to raise money for York to help with the costs of recovery and the strain of having no income.

On Dec. 6 the West Carleton Rivermen EOSHL team hosted a Lexie Night in her honour. Now friends have organized a fundraising party to be held at the Carp Agricultural Society Hall (3790 Carp Rd,) on Saturday, Jan. 25 starting at 7 p.m.

“Grab your friends and family and come join us for an evening of friendship and fun,” organizer Melissa Pinard said. “There will be live music, cash bar, free snacks and thousands of dollars in prizes up for auction. Help us raise funds for Lexie York’s ongoing recovery and expenses.”

Admission is $5 and free for kids. The bar will be open, but organizers advise there is no debit or bank machine on site. There will also be an auctioun with many great items.

“There will be a silent auction, done through bidding sheets,” Pinard said. “For the auction winners, payments can be made in Cash or VIA e-Transfer and must be made onsite.”

Organizers are still hoping to add to their collection of auction items and contributions for the event.

“If you would like to donate items to the event, please contact a member of the fundraising committee/ event host,” Pinard said.
