Legion 616: Legion Week teaser

For Branch 616, July was rather quiet. We did have a perfect Canada Day celebration and were pleased to be chosen as the venue for a fabulous event for a flooded-out family. Also, the Friday night dinners were well-attended and the community gardens are growing well.

Branch 616 is gearing up for the 2020 Earlybird Membership Campaign which starts Sept. 1 and ends Nov. 30. During this time, members can submit their dues and get a $5 discount plus a chance at a refund. Earlybirds paying in September will get three chances at the free membership, two if paying in October, and one chance in November. After November, membership will be full price and must be submitted by Dec. 31 to remain in good standing.

Also coming up in September – Legion Week! Legion Week this year is from Sunday, Sept. 15 to Saturday, Sept. 21. The kick-off is the Honours and Awards ceremony followed by the pig roast. The dart leagues resume play on their usual nights. The branch invites everyone to drop in during this week and participate in the various activities. A full schedule of events will be published in the September newsletter.

The Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting Singles & Doubles Ladies Darts on Saturday, Oct. 5. Players are encouraged to sign up ASAP. The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board. Check the board for the L.A. 2019/20 sports schedule.

The golf team of Tom Watters and Rob Gallant (senior men’s division) finished third in Districts at Petawawa. They will be moving on to Provincials. Congrats, team!

Comrade Dr. Roly Armitage was honoured with a gift made by ‘Quilts of Valour’, an organization that provides veterans with a handmade quilt as a way of saying thank you for our freedom. The veteran’s ID number, insignia, plus other service mementos, are integrated into the finished work. Roly was presented with his quilt at the July 12 TGIF dinner.
