Learn to curl at West Carleton’s only curling club
CARP – This year’s Tim Horton’s Brier is in nearby Kingston, better start practicing if you want to participate.
The Huntley Curling Club in Carp wants everyone to play Canada’s favourite winter sport.
“Whether you are eight or 88 years young, Huntley has a program for you,” club president Blake Sinclair said.
The program is based on the Canadian Curling Association’s Learn to Curl Program offered at many clubs across the country and is designed to provide comprehensive instruction on all aspects and of course playing in the sport of curling for new or novice curlers.
But Sinclair says you have to come to the club to experience “the Huntley difference.”
“At Huntley, we combine classroom topics with, of course, lots of on-ice instruction and playing time on a weekly basis,” Sinclair said. “Topics covered include etiquette, strategy, equipment, rules of the game, and of course the fundamentals of delivery, shot-making, sweeping and more.”

Those who take up the sport through the club’s Learn to Curl program, will receive a coupon to use towards joining one of the several Huntley leagues.
“After completing your Learn to Curl program we will place you in a league with others who have similar experience and interests,” Sinclair said. “And a $100 coupon to be used toward future Huntley Curling Club Membership fees.”
That does not include the youth learn to curl program.
“Learn to Curlers receive a gripper and a step-on slider to use during the sessions and we show you what they are and how to use them,” Sinclair said. “Brooms and stabilizers are also provided for the Learn to Curl sessions.”
