Kinburn corn roast packs ‘em in

KINBURN – It took 35 dozen cobs to satisfy a huge group that came out to enjoy last Friday’s (Sept. 6) annual Kinburn Corn Roast.

“It’s the biggest one I’ve seen in 10 years,” Kinburn native Doreen Jorgenson told West Carleton Online from the packed community hall in the line-up for more corn at the Kinburn Community Centre.

“We brought more food that last time and I think we’re on the verge of selling out,” Kinburn Community Association President Laurie Chauvin told West Carleton Online between serving drinks from behind the bar.

The annual event is a cash barbecue but also features free corn on the cob, donated by Hudson’s Sweet Corn.

“I want to thank Hudson’s of course,” Chauvin said. “We should thank the firefighters as well.”

Kinburn’s Station 61 volunteer firefighters were on hand with on of their big trucks to entertain the children on the slightly rainy evening.

“It was busy and popular and I’m glad everyone came out and enjoyed themselves,” Chauvin said.
