Key indicators stabilizing as OPH reports 31 new cases, holiday testing hours
OTTAWA – Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is reporting 31 new cases of COVID-19 today (Dec. 21) as key indicators of spread in the community stabilize.
The number of active cases in the community remains at 378 – about the same level it’s been for at least the last week.
Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 on Ottawa are at 19, with no one admitted to intensive care in the last three days.
There are just two schools in Ottawa still experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks.
The only indicator on the rise is institutional outbreaks, as one staff member tested positive for the virus at Parkway House long-term care and two residents have contracted COVID-19 at Besserer Place retirement home. Those are two of 19 institutions dealing with COVID-19 cases.
The city’s COVID-19 related death count is at 389.
OPH is also following four community outbreaks linked to workplaces.
There have been 9,384 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa since March, of which 8,617 have been resolved.
Ontario is reporting 2,123 cases of COVID-19 on Monday, after more than 54,500 tests were completed.
Ottawa’s COVID-19 assessment centres will remain open over the holidays, but there will be adjusted hours and some closures.
Residents can book a COVID-19 test as usual, but with adjusted operating hours between Wednesday, December 23 and Monday, January 4, health officials are advising to first check the holiday hours of testing centres.
