OTTAWA – If you received a text from Ottawa Hydro about billing issues, it is a scam.

A flurry of scam texts this past weekend claimed those who received them were due a refund from the electricity company. Hydro Ottawa says it does not text customers about their bills.

Hydro Ottawa said the texts are not from them, and urged anyone receiving the scam messages to report them immediately to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501, or to call Hydro Ottawa at 613-738-6400 to verify the legitimacy.

Hydro officials remind customers that they do not text about billing matters.
