Hockey4Humanity tourney back Jan. 26

CARP – The fourth annual Hockey4Humanity three-on-three shinny tournament is back and bigger than ever.

The Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA) fundraiser has quickly become West Carleton’s biggest shinny tournament in just three short years.

Last year 84 players and 14 teams from Corkery, Carp, Dunrobin, Kanata, Manotick, Richmond and beyond took part. Hockey4Humanity organizers Alex Carlson is a Dunrobin-based volunteer firefighter and started the tournament to raise funds for the rare disease to support his younger brother Kaelan who was diagnosed with Friedreich’s ataxia six years ago.

The three-versus-three outdoor shinny tournament is held at the Carp Outdoor Rink at 108 Juanita Ave. all day Sunday, Jan. 26.

It is recommended teams are made up of six to 10 players with no goalies. Each team is guaranteed three round robin games and the top eight teams advance to the playoffs.

“Bring the family and come out and play, watch and support the fourth annual Hockey4Humanity Outdoor Shinny Hockey Tournament in benefit of FARA from 9 a.m to 5 p.m.,” Alex released in a statement Dec. 23.
