Heavy snow on the way this weekend

WEST CARLETON – Environment Canada is issuing a special weather statement for Ottawa and the area, calling for the potential for a heavy snowfall event this weekend.

“Snow is expected to start falling on the capital early Saturday (Jan. 16) morning, as a strong low pressure system approaches eastern Ontario from New England,” Environment Canada released in a statement today (Jan. 14).

Environment Canada says the snow may become heavy through the day and continue into Saturday night before easing on Sunday.

Snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm are possible by Sunday (Jan. 17) morning.

The weather agency warns hazardous winter driving conditions are expected from this snowstorm. Motorists are advised to change travel plans accordingly.
