Heavy rainfall expected to hit WC starting tonight

WEST CARLETON – Environment Canada is calling for a significant downpour starting tonight.

“Rain will begin late tonight west of Ottawa and move eastward,” Environment Canada released in a statement this afternoon (March 12). “Across most areas the rain will end early Friday afternoon. Many areas may receive total rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 millimetres.

There may be a period of freezing drizzle overnight tonight across the National Capital Region and east along the Ottawa river valley briefly making surfaces slippery. Temperatures will warm up above freezing with the arrival of the rain early Friday morning over the Ottawa River valley.

“For information concerning potential spring flooding in your area, please consult your local Conservation Authority or the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry,” Environment Canada said.
