Heat wave here until Thursday

WEST CARLETON – Ward 5 is going to be hot, hot, hot, at least until Thursday (July 11).

Environment Canada issued a heat warning early this afternoon (July 10) and expects the heat will be hear until tomorrow.

“A hot and humid air mass will remain over the area into Thursday,” Environment Canada released in a statement. “Temperatures in the low 30s are expected this afternoon, with humidex values in the upper 30s. Minimum temperatures tonight will be near 20 degrees Celsius, providing little relief from the heat. Temperatures on Thursday afternoon will once again reach into the low 30s.”

A slightly cooler and less humid air mass will arrive in the wake of a cold front Thursday evening providing relief from the heat into Friday. Unfortunately this means there is a risk of strong thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon and evening as well. On Thursday, the temperature will feel like 38 degrees. Five to 10 millimetres of rain is also expected tomorrow. Temperatures will dip below 30 Friday, Saturday, Sunday and in to next week, although with humidity it will still feel quite warm in the low 30s. The long range forecast expects the heat to return by Tuesday with humidex ratings in the high 30s and touch the low 40s by Wednesday.
