Heat warning, thunderstorms in effect until Tuesday

WEST CARLETON – The heat is here again and coming with it, the risk of thunderstorms.

Environment Canada released a heat warning earlier today (Aug. 10) that will be in effect until Tuesday.

“A heat event is expected from today into Tuesday,” Environment Canada released in a statement today. “Maximum temperatures today are expected to reach between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius with Humidex values near 40. Minimum overnight temperatures will be between 20 and 23 degrees Celsius.”

Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index to approach the high-risk category.

“The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors,” Environment Canada said.

The risk of strong thunderstorms is also expected this afternoon and ending in the evening. Approximately five millimetres of rain may fall.
