FITZROY HARBOUR – Fitzroy Harbour native Brandon Ovington’s great 2019 track season has netted him an athletic scholarship to Utah State University.
Ovington had a big year in track and field throwing events including shot put and discus. Last summer, Ovington won a bronze at the Canadian Track and Field Championship held at the end of July.
He finished his career at West Carleton Secondary School last spring winning a silver at the Ontario Federation of Secondary School Athletic Association (OFSAA) Track and Field Championship held June 6 to 8. Ovington also came fifth in discus at that event.
Ovington’s hard work has paid off, as now the Harbour boy will attend Utah State University starting in the fall of 2020 where he will continue his track and field career. Ovington is also a former Fitzroy Harbour Community Association grounds crew employee.
