Harbour Ball final series even at one win apiece
FITZROY HARBOUR – A goalie stick is being credited with saving Game 2 of the Fitzroy Harbour Men’s Fastball League (FHMFL) finals last night (Oct. 2)
“With the lower diamond too muddy to play on seven-degree Celsius evening, the game moved to the upper diamond after a quick bit of creative groundskeeping to remove some standing water using a goaltender’s stick,” Fitzroy Fastball Blog reporter Adam Brown said.
After the water was removed, Al’s Corner Store defeated Cheshire Cat Pub 7-5 in Game 2 of the FHMFL Championship Series on Wednesday night evening the series at a game apiece.
“The Cat got out to a 3-0 early lead, but two big innings put Al’s up 7-3,” Brown said. “Cheshire Cat clawed back to get the score to 7-5 in the top of the sixth. After Al’s couldn’t respond in the bottom of the sixth, the Cat loaded the bases in the top of the seventh but couldn’t push a run across.”
Dave Bahm and Danny Nash threw for Al’s,
while Adam Rueckwald and Jeff “J-Cav” Cavanagh pitched for the Cat.
The Cheshire Cat Pub took the first game in the best of three series Wednesday night
(Sept. 25) with a come from behind, 13-5 win over Al’s Corner Store.
Cavanagh and Rueckwald pitched for the Cat, while Nash and Bahm threw for Al’s.
The Cat scored nine runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the big lead. Tim Leclair had a grand slam in the inning.
The deciding game three for Harbour ball supremacy will be played soon on a date/time to be announced on the Fitzroy Fastball Blog.
