Gibson movie shot in WC one step closer to theatres
CARP – A movie containing scenes shot in Carp and starring Mel Gibson as Santa Claus, has been purchased by a distributor.
The movie titled Fatman stars Gibson, Walton Goggins and Marianne Jean-Baptiste, is billed as a dark comedy and centres on a 12-year-old boy who hires a hitman to kill Santa Claus. Gibson portrays a rowdy Santa who’s facing a decline in business.
Pivotal scenes were shot at the Diefenbunker Cold War Museum last March. While Gibson wasn’t involved in the Carp shoot Goggins, who plays the hitman Skinny Man, did film scenes at the Diefenubnker which stood in as a shooting range for the movie. Other scenes for the movie were filmed in Mississippi Mills and in Pakenham at the Mount Pakenham Ski Hill. The movie is being directed by Eshom and Ian Nelms who also wrote the movie.
The movie was recently purchased by Saban Films.
“This is our second collaboration with the Nelms brothers, and we couldn’t be more excited to bring another unique, thrilling movie of theirs to our audiences,” Saban Films’ Bill Bromiley said. “Eshom and Ian are a talented duo, and we were hooked from script stage. This one is a fun ride.”
Saban Films did not name a date when the movie will be released.
