Free Carp workshops to provide tech advice

CARP – Technology is changing at a speed that makes it hard to keep up. Join Sharing Wisdom, Lives and Hearts as the organization presents Tech Talk for Everyone – don’t be afraid of your tech, a free workshop.

“We all sometimes need a little help when our tech device seems to take off in a direction we didn’t want,” Sharing Wisdom, Lives and Hearts founder and coordinator Gillian Mattoch told West Carleton Online. “Or we may be vulnerable to scams and fraud attempts if we are not continually on our toes about what we are doing. Or, we might just want to understand the complex instruction manual to a new device.”

Not everyone has a helpful teenager in the family to give tips.

“If we have a tech-savvy person to easily call on, that’s great,” Mattoch said. “But sometimes we just need a little extra help from a friendly, non-judgmental human. That’s where this workshop comes in.

Students for Seniors is a network of post secondary students who offer workshops on how to get the most out of our technology.

“I am pleased to announce a two-hour workshop, for 10 to 15 people, between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 5,” Mattoch said.

A second workshop will be offered on Thursday, March 12, between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

“The workshop will start with a brief discussion on common issues as well as some best practices,” Mattoch said. “There will be an opportunity to book one-on-one help with the experts, with all, or part of the fee covered by our grant.”

The venue for both workshops is the Parish of Huntley Church Hall, St. James Anglican Church, 3774 Carp Rd.

The event will be catered with tea, coffee, soft drink, scones and other light refreshments.
