The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Organized Fraud Unit is seeking the community’s assistance to locate Roger William DeCarie, 40-years-old, from Ottawa, who has several warrants for his arrest relating to a renovation scam.

DeCarie is facing 18 charges in total, nine each of false pretense and possession of proceeds of crime.

“It is alleged that between May 2018 and May 2019, DeCarie posted advertisements on social media offering renovation services (fence building, basement renovations, drywall services),” the OPS released in a statement. “Potential clients would contact DeCarie who in turn would attend the client’s residence, or ask for pictures and give a written quote.  A 10 per cent to 50 per cent deposit was requested by cash or e-transfer. DeCarie did not show up to commence the work on the scheduled date and all communications ceased.”

DeCarie would also present himself as “Roger Williams.”

DeCarie is a Caucasian male, 40-year-old, medium built, 5’11” (180 cm) tall, with blue.

Anyone who may have information on DeCarie’s whereabouts are asked to contact police or send an e-mail to Detective Shaun Wahbeh at 613-236-1222 ext. 5492 or by e-mail at wahbehs@ottawapolice.ca. Victims of this scam are asked to make a fraud report on-line or to contact 613-236-1222 ext. 7300.
