St. Mary’s made the announcement March 26 on its Huskies Instagram account.

“Head coach James Colzie III and SMU Football would like to introduce our newest member from our 2019 recruiting class,” the coach said. “Jarid will be relied upon to come in and push some of our veteran offensive lineman. He will need to come in ready to work and learn the playbook so he can contribute early in some form or fashion.”

Byers is a Winchester, ON native who has played football for roughly four years. The 6’2”, 310-pouund lineman started playing wit the Kemptville Jaguars before joining the West Carleton Wolverines in the National Capital Amateur Football Association league.

He also played with the Myers Riders of the OPFL where his team went undefeated in 2017.

“Just want to give a shout out to both my parents for their love and support,” Byers told canadafootballchat.com. “Especially my mom for being a driving force in motivating me and attending almost every game of my football career.”

Registration for all Wolverines’ programs are ongoing, and the team is holing winter workouts right now. For more information on the Wolverines, click here.
