Firefighters attend to leaky sailboat near Pinhey’s Point
PINHEY’S POINT – The Ottawa Fire Service’s (OFS) water rescue team was dispatched early this morning (July 26) to help some moonlight sailors with a leaky boat.
The OFS received a 911 call at 1:21 a.m. from a sailboat anchored 100 feet off shore near Pinhey’s Point Road and taking on water.
OFS station 45, on Cameron Harvey Drive in West Carleton responded to the call. The water rescue unit was dispatched from Fitzroy Harbour to assist.
“There were two occupants on board, both wearing life jackets,” the OFS released in a statement this morning. “Ottawa Fire Water Rescue teams launched their boats to assist. Upon arriving at the sailboat, Ottawa Water Rescue teams confirmed the occupants were okay and assisted with managing the leak.”
There were no reported injuries.

The OFS reminds boaters to always wear a Personal Floatation Device (PFD) and ensure it fits snug and securely and ensure you are equipped with a safety kit when heading out on water and/or outdoor adventures.
