Fashion forward in Kinburn

KINBURN – The ladies were out, the men were serving and the latest spring fashions were on display at the Bethel-St. Andrews United Church Women’s annual Fashion Show and Silent Auction last night (May 8).

Approximately 180 people attended the popular event that featured exclusive fashions from Arnprior’s newest boutique The Mill – Mill Street Fashions at 114 John St. N as well as designed works by Dunrobin fashion designer Megan Duffield.

Volunteer models showcased the clothes and accessories while attendees enjoyed coffee, tea and treats.

“It’s wonderful,” organizer Sandra Preece told West Carleton Online during a brief intermission in the evening. “This is one of our better turnouts – the tables are full tonight. It’s going well and everyone seems to be enjoying a beautiful night.”

The event is a fundraiser for Bethel-St. Andrews United Church.

Preece has been involved in the event since its inception estimated to be 14 years ago.

“The idea came from a shop owner that used to do a fashion show for another church,” Preece said. “Bonnie’s Fashions. But she sold the shop, and then last year’s boutique also sold. So, we are so happy to have The Mill step up for us.”

They also have a local fashion designer as well.

Duffield grew up near MacLaren’s Landing but now calls Dunrobin home. Duffield says her focus is “sustainable fashion for women.”

Duffield started Duffield Design about seven years ago but has been designing clothes for “a pretty long time.”

“Since high school at least,” Duffield told West Carleton Online following the show. “It’s been a long-running passion.”
